10 to 12 year olds
In the drawing there is a grid, a house and a bird. You can only move along the grid lines. We take as the unit of length that of the side of a square on the grid.
To go from the house to the bird, the shortest distance is 6 units. We show you one of the routes of that length.
a – Find two other routes (from the house to the bird) of 6 units.
b – Now draw a 8 units route and a 10 units route.
c – Then draw one of 7 units and another of 9 units.
Explain what happens.
